Route 66

I just read that the President is designating Mojave Trails National Monument today. The new monument will be 1.6 million acres and link Joshua Tree National Park with the Mojave Preserve, and will include Route 66 from Needles to Ludlow.

I love Route 66. I’ve been on many stretches of it in Southern California and enjoy taking photos of relics from the birth of the American highway system and the culturally significant buildings, road signs, and other structures that are part of that period of our history. While not taken along the stretch Route 66 in the newly designated park, this is a favorite Route 66 image of mine (so far) – I plan to do a lot more exploring and photographing along Route 66 in the coming months.
