Reflections on Tanzania
Elephants

I’m fascinated with elephants. I often think about them and what it is that fascinates me. They are tremendously powerful creatures. But more than that, they are largely gentle and graceful creatures despite their enormous size and capacity for wreaking havoc when stressed. Elephants are highly intelligent and social creatures. They are curious. They play. They protect each other and their young. They show empathy and sadly, they mourn their dead. Looking into the eyes of an elephant, I feel connected to a being with a deep memory of its past and a keen awareness of its present.
